Terminal Buds, Vol. 1
Terminal Buds’ debut album grew out of weekly improvisation sessions held in Steve Bakker’s basement. The philosophy was simple: hit record, start playing, follow each others’ riffs like breadcrumbs. Some tracks—including “Red Tide,” “Dark Park,” and “Meeting of the Mothers”—were essentially unscripted first takes. Others were refined over months of rehearsal, from the dreamy beach vibes of “Paradise Cove” to the barely-contained chaos of “Can.” Blending post-rock, psychedelia, and jazz fusion, each song was played live, with grooves anchored by Jonathan DeHaan (bass) and Steve Bakker (drums), and melody and vibes supplied by Joel Boyles (guitar), Rob Kenagy (guitar), and Jonah Ogles (guitar, pedal steel, Rhodes).
